Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera

I’ve read a lot of domestic suspense this year. Which means I’ve read a lot of darkly wonderful writing and unreliable narrators. This book is different! It’s utterly fresh in tone, and I think I’m in love.

The narrator is Lucy, who’s moved away from her hometown in Texas after her best friend was murdered. Everyone thinks Lucy did it, and it’s hard for her to defend herself when she can’t remember the events of that night.

But instead of giving in to the darkness, this character is darkly funny. My favorite line, for example: “I should get a T-shirt: I was the subject of a true crime podcast and all I got was this T-shirt and gonorrhea.”

She’s kidding. But you get the idea.

Trust me on this one. Even in chapter one you’ll see why this is a thriller for readers of snarky romance. There’s a cuckoo grandma, and a clueless boyfriend. It’s a box of delights.
