After Hours at Dooryard Books and Star Shipped by Cat Sebastian
I was already a Cat Sebastian fan before I read her two most recent books. These two books did nothing to dissuade me. They’re both fantastic and you should read them immediately.
After Hours at Dooryard Books takes place in Vietnam era Manhattan. I would have told you that I’m not very interested in that time period, but of course Cat Sebastian has once again proven me wrong.
This is a grief book, but it sneaks up on you. It’s just so lovely. I didn’t want to leave their grungy little patch of the Village after the book ended.
Now we need a moment to discuss Star Shipped. It has a super fun, more commercial setup than many of her books. The two male stars of a sci-fi TV show have hated each other from the jump. But now, after more than five seasons, circumstances lead Simon and Charlie to spend some off-set time together, and it’s tense!
The characters are absolutely fantastic. I loved watching Simon figure out why he was wrong about Charlie, and processing his attraction in the swooniest way.
I even read the acknowledgements section, where the author thanks someone for convincing her that she was capable of writing a contemporary. 😩 Bitch, please. You could write anything, and I’ll show up with my wallet. I’ve got it bad.
