Sapphire Sunset and Sapphire Spring by C. Travis Rice

Christopher Rice writes, among other things, some gritty suspense novels. I don’t know how I missed the fact that he’s also written a romance series as C. Travis Rice about a grand California sea cost hotel called Sapphire Cove.

Book one introduces Connor, the fabulous heir to the property, and his rough-around-the-edges security staffer Logan. And right away we’ve got opposites attract, forbidden workplace romance and angsty dynamics. I was hooked!

I love the way Mr. Rice went all-in on the romance genre in this book. He makes these tropes, and the romance of the surfside property, sing like a diva. It’s glorious!

Book two is actually a bully romance, a trope that I’ll normally cross the street to avoid. But Mr. Rice is so talented that I gave it a whirl, and I’m not sorry! Fantastic character work is apparently all it takes to get me over my distaste for bullies. And the plot is so masterful I was kept guessing until the very end.

Just go read them, you’ll be glad you did.
