The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year by Ally Carter

This is a fantastic book and anyone would love it. Ally Carter has the unique ability to write a thriller that is also a romance or a romance that is also a thriller. But her real super power is combining high stakes action with characters that live and breathe on the page. In other words, the reader buys the outrageous plot because the character is so real that you are willing to follow her anywhere. Maggie is my favorite Ally Carter heroine to date, and that’s saying a lot.

Tropes: locked room mystery, enemies to lovers, he falls first, Christmas.

Mood: hilarious, plotty, slightly campy, perfect banter.

Read it for the: everything. Just read it.
